Mother’s earth day and the mid-zone

My daughter asked me to watch a documentary with her about the impact of the excessive amount of produced and used plastics. She has been very interested lately in different matters of the world, and it is a coincidence that today April 22nd is mother’s earth day. She is only a girl who looks a bit older since she makes insightful questions. My children inspire me to share what is in my mind, despite is a modest knowledge, the intention is to wake up our conscience, and we act for the future of next generations. Some days ago, she said we should carry a fabric bag every time we go to shop for groceries, so we do not use plastic bags. Is it possible to reduce the massive number of plastics being produced and consumed?  If we are going to buy plastics or their derivatives, do we ask ourselves do I need this product? or do I want this product? As consumers, we must be aware of what we consume, and we honestly need, and even if this means a small action, it is still better than nothing. Being adults, we may be creating an indifferent behavior toward current matters, such as small actions which will help our earth and our children will learn from our example and will know we do it for them. Medical doctors have emphasized human beings have microplastics inside veins and arteries. Have we asked ourselves why there are more people being diagnosed with cancer at a younger age? Why are there more couples who have problems getting pregnant? Are we aware of the natural law of action and reaction, or also called boomerang effect? It means plastics we through away into oceans, forests and nature are getting back to us in the animals we consume, since we are poisoning them when they eat small particles of plastics, we forget we are inside the food chain. Human beings tend to lean on extremes when making decisions based only on financial reasons, rather than implementing integral, holistic and preventive solutions.

We can discuss the midzone and why to consider it in our daily choices. I use examples to define it. If I eat junk food excessively and consistently, will increase my glucose level and therefore will gain weight, and the likelihood of being diagnosed with a cardiovascular disease will grow. If I am not physically active for long time, as getting older, the risk of suffering fractures will increase since my muscles will be strong enough to protect bones. If I continuously buy products which I do not need, will affect my finances. If I do not drink enough water, the brain and body will get dehydrated and will make me feel sick and long term affect some organs. These are examples about how extreme zones are not necessarily good for anybody and are the cause of current issues people face even globally. We get healthier and balanced if we keep in mind the mid zone in our daily decisions and our children with our actions. I am calling it mid zone, balance or equilibrium, what matters is to apply in every chance we have. Let’s decide and act according to the mid zone keeping in mind it will not only help mine and our loved people’s health, but also will help our mother’s earth, our beloved planet.
